Making a Difference

There are many ways to make a difference for the environment in our everyday lives. Lists are available all over the internet. Here is one of the better lists, from the David Suzuki Foundation.

Nipissing Environmental Watch is primarily involved in speaking up for the environment locally. Municipalities have influence over about 50 per cent of our emissions. As residents of a small city, we focus on North Bay’s potential to help curtail climate change, to build climate resiliency and plan for a greener future. Residents like you, willing to work with like-minded City councilors and staff stand to make a huge difference. Your role as a citizen with your local government is powerful.

By asking pertinent questions, NEW has obtained a more closely monitored landfill site for North Bay, a well-used Household Hazardous Waste Depot, a pesticide by-law before the province reduced the cosmetic use of garden chemicals, greener policies in the Official Plan, thousands more trees planted across the City, and earned wide respect from citizens and politicians from all walks.
